The goal of wintering is to minimize stress on plant and protect its root system so it can thrive when warmer weather returns. Proper winter care helps protect roses from freezing temperatures, snow, and ice, ensuring they will bloom again in the spring. Flowering shrubs such as rose can be wintered in northern and eastern India. In this process during resting period the water supply to the plant to be wintered is stopped for a few days and the roots are exposed to the sun by removing the surface soil around the trunk. The duration of exposure varies from three to fifteen days depending upon the age, nature and hardiness of plant. After that the roots are covered with the same soil enriched with farm yard manure and abundantly watered.
