Following are the common pest and diseases that can afflict your plants during monsoon
- Powdery mildew- it is the most common disease in plants during rainy season. Generally affects the surface of leaves, buds, fruits and flowers. It is caused by fungi of order Erysiphales.
- Anthracnose - another fungal disease where the spores of colletotrichum cause dark lesions on leaves,shoots,stem, flower and fruits. Anthracnose causes wilting, withering and dying of tissues.
- Leaf spot- majorly caused by fungi, many pathogens and bacteria can also cause this disease. Symptoms include brown, black and reddish spots.
- Fire blight- caused by bacterium Erwinia amylovora. It spreads rapidly in moist warm weather.It kills blossoms, shoots wilt, leaves turns dark brown to black, trees with multiple infected shoots appear as scorched by fire.
