How can I get rid off unwanted mushrooms?
Unwanted mushrooms generally grow in garden when conditions are favourable like moist, shady areas with decaying organic matter. They can be edible or poisonous. Here’s how you can emove them if they are unwanted:
-
Remove Manually: Pluck mushrooms using gloves. Dig up the entire mushroom, including the base, to prevent spreading. Dispose of them in a sealed bag or outdoor bin.
-
Improve the Drainage: Mushrooms prefer compacted and damp soil. Fix aeration in the soil with a rake or garden fork. Add sand to improve drainage.
-
Remove Organic Debris: Decomposing leaves, mulch, and wood chips where mushrooms grow should be removed or cleared.
-
Watering: Adjust watering in plants early in the morning so the soil dries out during the day. Avoid overwatering and soggy soil conditions.
-
Use Vinegar or Baking Soda: Mix vinegar and water in 1:4 parts and spray on mushrooms, avoid nearby plants.
You can also sprinkle baking soda lightly over the soil to raise pH and discourage growth. -
Neem oil or cinnamon powder: Sprinkle Neem oil or Cinnamon powder to deter fungal growth.
