Preventing wilt and leaf curl in marigold flowers

How can I prevent wilt and leaf curl in marigold flowers?

Wilting and leaf curling are the most common problems with marigold flowers. Following are the steps to keep marigold flowers fresh for as long as possible, help extend life of your marigold flowers and keep them looking vibrant for longer:

  1. Choose Fresh Cut Flowers: Start with flowers that are freshly cut, as they’ll last longer than older blooms.

  2. Trim Stems Properly: Use clean, sharp scissors or a knife to cut the stems at a 45° angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption.

  3. Cut Lower Leaves: Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline in your vase. Leaves in the water can promote bacterial growth, which can cause flowers to wilt faster.

  4. Use Clean Water and Vase: Fill a clean vase with fresh water. Add a floral preservative if you have it, or a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice as an alternative. Avoid Overwatering as it led to downward curling.

  5. Change Water Regularly: Replace the water every 1-2 days to prevent bacterial buildup. Re-cut the stems slightly each time to keep them absorbing water

  6. Choose a Cool Spot: Keep marigolds in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. Cooler temperatures help prolong their freshness.

  7. Keep hydrating: Mist the flowers lightly with water every few days using spray to keep the petals hydrated and fresh-looking.
