Which plants in my garden need to be Prune in February?
Several plants need to be prune in February for many healthy reasons. It is essential to remove dead, damaged or diseased parts of plant in it’s late winter or early spring. Here are some plants that are ideal for pruning in February:
- Roses: Prune hybrid tea and floribunda roses variety to encourage new and healthy blossoms. Keep rose bush at certain desirable height and avoid over-pruning.
- Hydrangeas: Remove dead stems and shape the flower head for authentic look of the plant.
- Clematis: Cut back all old stem above the healthy buds to encourage strong growth.
- Ornamental Grasses: Prune old leaves and stems to make room for fresh growth. Remove old stems to promote strong structure.
- Wisteria: Cut back long side shoots to control size and encourage flowering. Remove unwanted shoots and root suckers that are not needed. Manage overall size for a sharp and sturdy shape.
