How can I grow spring onion using kitchen waste?
Growing spring onions at home is very easy and doesn’t need much hassle. You can grow them in pots, containers, or directly in the ground if you have a garden. Here’s how to grow from Kitchen Scraps:
-
All you need is spring onion bottoms with roots intact, glass or jar, water, pot with soil. Cut the spring onions about 1 to 2 inches above the root end.
-
Place the roots in a glass container with enough water to cover the roots, but not the entire base.
-
Put it on a sunny windowsill. You’ll need lots of compost.
-
They’ll regrow quickly within a week and you’ll see green shoots. Change the water frequently.
-
After a few days or when they grow 3 to 4 inches, you can transplant them into soil for stronger growth and multiple harvests.
-
Provide at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight per day. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Feed with mild liquid fertilizer every 2 to 3 weeks. Cut what you need, and they’ll regrow multiple times from the same base.
